About this piece: This is the first piece I did in this series. The series has evolved as it has progressed.

I was thinking about the desert. I have twice lived in extreme desert conditions, and I was thinking about how heat waves distort reality, and that a mirage could be anything really.

Most of the piece is drawn, although there are a few elements that I collaged in that were from a very old set of magazines that featured wood engravings. In these early works from the series, there is more of a suggestion of landscape than in later pieces.
