About the piece: I was very interested in the face with the gaps of white because the paper had somehow not fully taken the ink. Maybe the paper had been creased, or something got in the way between the wood engraving and the printed paper; I don’t know. It felt unanticipated, something I experience a lot.
I remember feeling this way in college when I was accused, falsely, of stealing money from someone’s purse. It appeared to me that I was set up, but everyone seemed to think I was guilty. I never understood why someone would do that. It made me feel like the face, only partially seen, and the oddness of being seen as someone I was not.
