A lot of the Parisian artists from Degas to Picasso did paintings of absinthe drinkers, so I think it has a certain romantic overtone to me. However, I also see the dulled desperation in their eyes, a look I remember all too well from two years working in a drug and alcohol rehab, so there’s that, too. Absinthe is also called the green fairy. There’s a bit of that in there, as well.

I have never had absinthe. I prefer to observe in this instance.
